Cuando tomé té con Nicanor Parra
NOTA AL LECTOR:
Esta entrada la escribí en Agosto de 2008, cuando vivía en Chile. (Tomado de mi otro blog para estrenar este…)
Después de tanto pensarlo decidí ir a Las Cruces, un lugar de las costas frías de Chile, a encontrarme con el “antipoeta” del que supe alguna vez en una conversación en México, con mi amigo Eric Estrada.
Eric me contó la relación entre Nicanor Parra y Juan Rulfo, lo cual fue mi primer gancho con él, porque si de alguien me declaro admiradora es del escritor de El Llano en Llamas. Así que, cuando volé para Chile, me juré que lo buscaría en su casa, donde fuera que viviera. Y lo encontré. Y se quedó grabado como figurín de una artesanía en mi memoria.
Me enteré que vive en Las Cruces, un lugar de la Quinta Región de Valparaíso, es un pueblo de playa helada, pero precioso. Si algo abunda es la tranquilidad.
Les comparto unos fragmentos de la conversación que tuve con Eric cuando le conté el logro obtenido.
“Hagas lo que hagas te arrepentirás”
“Hay que darle gusto al cuerpo”
“Abuelo, hazme un gato, yo le hago la cola”
“La perdición empezó con Homero”
“Mi escritor favorito, siempre será Juan Rulfo”
Todas esas frases me las dijo Nicanor Parra en la sala de su casa el viernes 1 de agosto de 2008.
En la aventura me acompañó Vicky, una amiga griega-chilena que conocí hace poco. Nikki en griego, si gustan.
“Todo el día pensé en ti Eric, incluso en el momento en el que lo vi sentado frente a mí, te mencioné en algún momento, ¿adivina de qué hablamos? Discursos de sobremesa y de su visita a Comala y Sayula”.
Nicanor Parra casi me corre de su casa. Pero claro que hasta eso me habría hecho feliz.
Y es que llegué sin avisar, además, ¿quién sino mis amigos me conocen bien? Nicanor no tenía idea de quién era yo. Llegué, toque la puerta y se asomó un hombre que resultó ser esposo de su hija Colomba. Le dije: “Hola vengo a ver a Nicanor”.
“Espera, voy a ver si está”, respondió.
Al momento se vio una mirada extremadamente fuerte, un par de ojos verdes, un verde como eucalipto, las bolsas por el pasar de los años hacen las veces de ojeras, un par de pecas seniles en la frente y su peculiar cabellera.
Era don Nicanor… dijo hola. Los 94 años de humanidad antipoeta me dejaron más congelada que la playa misma.
Abrió la puerta -nos miró por una puertecita de la puerta- y dijo:
“Pero pasen, ahí se están mojando”. Era medio día y estaba lluvioso.
Entramos y se atravesó una “Máquina del Tiempo”, formada por varias máquinas de escribir de distintos años; vimos también una Venus de Milo, con un letrero que dice “soy frígida, sólo funciono con fines de lucro”.
Nos leyó una hoja suelta: “Qué triste se ve la luna cuando la tapa una nube, pero más triste se ve el hombre cuando lo engaña una mujer”, al momento dijo: “tengo manzanas orgánicas como ésta mira”, mientras se comía una.
La casa de Nicanor es una casa negra con rejas blancas, en la puerta de madera dice “antipoesía” escrito con pintura de aerosol, hay un sillón afuera, el puro esqueleto, y un barril lleno de focos que dice: “ideas”.
Su Volkswagen, uno modelo noventa y algo de color dorado, tiene un papelito dentro que dice “no a la poesía transgénica”.
Cuando llenó una bolsa con “manzanas orgánicas” cortadas de su jardín por él mismo, según dijo, la perra Julieta, mascota del chileno que nos dio asilo en su casa de Las Cruces, estaba afuera de la casa de Nicanor. Él la dejó ahí.

Por cierto, Las Cruces está en la Comuna de El Tabo, a la orilla de la playa, como a dos horas del centro de Santiago de Chile.
Al darme las manzanas dijo: “Gracias por la visita, afuera las espera Julieta”. Yo no había dicho una sola palabra.
Él abrió la puerta y le dije: “Don Nicanor, me dio gusto conocerlo” -le extendí la mano- “yo lo conocí por mi mejor amigo, Eric, quien me contó de usted por un libro que se llama ‘Poemas Para Combatir la Calvicie’, por eso estoy aquí”.
Me miró y dijo: “No eres chilena ¿verdad?”- No, mexicana.
“Ese libro se ganó el primer premio de Juan Rulfo”.
Un premio que se entrega en México a los mejores exponentes de la literatura hispana.
En eso saqué del morral el citado libro y se lo mostré, le dije: “lo tuve que comprar acá don Nicanor, porque en México cuesta mucho trabajo encontrarlo”.
– Yo conocí a Rulfo, lo admiré siempre, lo admiro ahora, pero el jamás lo supo…
Con esa declaración me dejó, de nueva cuenta, muda.
– Pero pásate al living, no seas maleducada, ¿cómo que ya se van?
Pasamos a la sala -los chilenos le dicen living-, es el primer chileno sin acento que conozco, lo cual es verdaderamente un logro. Un chileno que pronuncie la letra S es verdaderamente un caso en peligro de extinción.

Me dijo que a México sí quiso ir y de su experiencia con Octavio Paz.
Octavio Paz siempre habló bien de Nicanor pero a él le caía mal porque era muy “vedette”, y cuando le dieron el premio Juan Rulfo, la prensa mexicana cuestionó al antipoeta sobre quién era su poeta favorito: Ramón López Velarde fue su respuesta.
Ese le gusta hasta la fecha, en ese entonces lo dijo a la prensa y al día siguiente salió publicado en todos los titulares. Paz reaccionó de inmediato. Un premio Juan Rulfo lo había rechazado públicamente.
“¿Por qué en un momento en el que te admiro tanto hablas tan mal de mí?”, le dijo Paz.
Nicanor le dijo: “Ya me conoces”.
Contó que Pablo Neruda se agarró a golpes con Paz. Paradójicamente, con Paz. Dice que Neruda tenía una cicatriz en la cabeza por culpa del poeta.
Habló de su viaje a Sayula y Comala, en el estado de Jalisco, a donde fue sólo porque leyó a Juan Rulfo. Dice que el escritor es inocente al relatar y su juego con los muertos le parece fascinante. La inocencia es lo que vale para él.
Dice que se topó con él dos veces en su vida y que Rulfo se le acercó para felicitarlo por un poema de Tlatelolco, dedicado a la matanza de los estudiantes, y Nicanor le dijo: “Gracias, pero yo no lo escribí”. Era de su sobrino, Ángel Parra, hijo de su hermana la folclorista, Violeta Parra.
Rulfo, relató, en ese momento salió huyendo. Es que Nicanor es un hombre de carácter… más que fuerte, maravillosamente perverso.
“Voy a ver si puedo conseguir te”, y enseguida llegaron tres tazas, galletas, mermelada y café.
Se sorprendió al saber que Victoria es griega, y contó sus pasajes favoritos de la cultura misma. Por cierto, resaltó la del “Vellocino de Oro” –dentro de Jasón y los Argonautas-, y además criticó en varias ocasiones al filósofo griego Homero, idea que ha transmitido a su nieta. “La perdición comenzó con Homero, todo era mejor antes. Todo era inocente”.
Él dice que es seguidor de los niños y los locos, y que el resto somos monstruos de distintos niveles…
Que a estas alturas el mundo está perdido, no hay nada que valga como ideal y mucho menos como ilusión…
Que sólo queda darle gusto al cuerpo, que de todas maneras, el oráculo de Delfos dice que “hagas lo que hagas, te arrepentirás”…
Que lo mejor de la vida es no involucrarse…
Que la inocencia es lo que lo maravilla hasta estos días…
Que jamás, en lo que le queda de vida volverá a subir un avión, porquelos hombres no deben salir de su casa después de los 50 años…
Que dejó corazones rotos en México, la que roba su recuerdo es Erika Ramírez de Guadalajara, a decir de él: “Hermosísima mujer, exquisita”.
“Casarse sin involucrarse”, dijo, “hay que vivir la vida sin involucrarse y sin frialdad”, y se burló de un futbolista chileno que fue abandonado por su novia, una bailarina exótica, que se aburrió de él.
“¿Son lesbianas?”, le dijimos que no, y nos contó el origen de la palabra lesbiana… así conocí la historia de la Isla Lesbos. La verdad, no sabía nada antes de esa charla, confieso.
Le pregunte de Borges, me dijo que prefería a Rulfo; de Cortázar y me dijo, nuevamente, Rulfo… luego, reviró: “Esto ya parece entrevista, ¿dónde esta la inocencia?”.
Dijo que los griegos lo invitaron a Delfos, y él les dijo que no, y mientras hablaba, Julieta la perrita, subía y bajaba las escaleras de su casa, entraba a la cocina, nos miraba, salía al patio, volvía a entrar y nadie le decía que no. De eso nos reímos Vicky y yo cuando salimos de su casa.
Habló mucho de su nieta, dice que ha escrito cuarenta frases de ella, o más… “Abuelo, hazme un gato, yo le dibujo la cola”, “abuelo, yo te hago un gato y tú le dibujas la cola”, y sonríe al recordar.
Terminamos el te y hablamos luego de Roberto Bolaño, de quien lee ahora el libro que habla de los poetas en la Facultad de Derecho de la UNAM… se dice admirador de los piratas ingleses:
“Los narcotraficantes son tontos: trabajan mucho. Los piratas, al contrario, le roban al tonto que trabaja, como los ingleses que asaltaban barcos españoles”.

“Y yo lo admiro mucho”

Se le olvidó mi libro, el cual me quitó para firmarlo cuando me había invitado a salir hacía ya dos horas, y le dije:
¿Puedo tener mi libro?, y me dijo “¡ah, cierto! tengo que escribirte algo ahí”
Y puso: Leslie! dibujó un corazón con una flecha clavada, y firmó Nicanor Parra, Las Cruces, 2008.
Antes de salir, dijo que admiraba a Los Tigres del Norte, y nos cantó una canción de ellos:
“Sipriano y Rosa Maria
dejan a su hijo encargado
y como espaldas mojadas,
se cruzan pa’l otro lado.
Pronto, encontraron trabajo,
por el rumbo de Mc Allen.
Ella es muy joven y hermosa,
y el de los hombres que valen”
“También es poesía”.
No pude tener una fotografía de él. Se la pedí, pero me dijo “no sólo soy antipoeta, también soy antifotografías, dicen que te roban el alma y mi alma es mía nomás”.
Cuando nos íbamos le dije: ¿le puedo dar un beso?, me tomó con fuerza y me lo dio muy cerca de la boca -a sus 94 años-, me agarró la mano y la besó también, y dijo que nos volvería a ver. Nos pidió mails y teléfonos. Y fui post Nicanor.
